Disclosure: Disney Mamas was provided with a copy of Lego Star Wars Droid Tales for review purposes.  Even though this product was provided at no cost the opinions expressed below are always our own.

I’ve always been a fan of tongue-in-cheek science fiction. While I love all things Star Wars and Star Trek, I’m also a fan of movies such as Space Balls and Galaxy Quest, and don’t get me started on Adam Driver’s SNL Undercover Boss sketch. Most recently I’ve added Lego Star Wars Droid Tales to my list of favorite sci-fi entertainment. Seriously. I started catching the short episodes on Disney XD following Phineas and Ferb or Star Wars Rebels with my 6-year old, Connor, and then started perusing the schedule in an attempt to set the DVR so I could show them to my husband too. Review - Lego Star Wars Droid Tales | Disney Mamas

The premise of Lego Star Wars Droid Tales is that R2D2 has been accidentally kidnapped and C3P0 is on a mission to find him. Throughout his mission, C3P0 regales anyone that will listen with their story, the events of the first 6 Star Wars films in short incremements. If you’ve seen Lion King 1 1/2 it is similar to that film, only in hyper-speed. Since the stories are told throught the voice of c3P0 his view of the characters is obvious, and hilaious.  He captializes on character archetypes making them truly entertaining to watch for everyone. For example, Han Solo has a bit of a “dumb jock” tendency, and seems to be channeling his inner Patrick Warburton, and Anakin is an extra whiney child and teenager.

The entire DVD runs 115 minutes, so you can see that it moves at a quick pace, with plenty of direct references to the films that adults will know and appreciate, even if they are over the heads of todays kids. It is also enjoyable for even those that (gasp) aren’t big Star Wars fans. In fact, it’s a great introduction to the Star Wars universe for those that aren’t yet familiar with the story or characters. The dialoge is witty and engaging, with lines such as “I didn’t touch the red button on accident, I did it on purpose!” and “you’re making it really difficult to be attracted to you” running through the entire series. I laughed through each episode. The speed and simplicity of the characters also make the story line easy to follow and understand.

Review - Lego Star Wars : Droid Tales DVD | Disney Mamas

Lego Star Wars Droid Tales is a perfect family DVD with plenty of humor and wit for everyone. I highly recommend grabbing a copy on DVD or on the Disney Movies Anywhere app. It is a welcome addition to any Star Wars fans entertainment library!

    Hi There!

My name is Lin and I’m the founder and heart behind DisneyMamas.com. I’m so glad you stopped by!

    My precious family

A Disney fan from birth,  I’ve made more than two dozen pilgrimages to my second home, Walt Disney World, with a handful of visits to Disneyland and Disney Cruise Line thrown in for good measure. Currently, I reside 1,162 miles from the World near Dallas, TX.

My usually willing, lifelong travel partner & husband is Chris, who’s Disney fandom is growing with every trip. Together we are raising two Disney-nuts-in-training: Connor and Logan. Connor’s passion of the moment is playing Sorcerer’s of the Magic Kingdom. Logan just wants to share your snack and ride it’s a small world.

Besides moming and blogging, I’m is also a high school theatre teacher by day and Disney and Universal travel agent by night for Once Upon a Time Vacations.
